What can I expect at our first session?
Together, we'll explore the concerns that brought you to therapy and create a treatment plan that aligns with your goals.
So that I can get to know you and understand you better, we'll go over a few intake questionnaires about your lifestyle, family history, occupation, medical history, and any past experiences you may have had in counseling.
I'll outline what the process of therapy might look like for your specific set of needs, and we'll explore any preferences or thoughts that you have about treatment.
At any time throughout our relationship, you can ask me questions and share concerns that you might have about the therapeutic process, my background, and my treatment approach. I aim to be as transparent as possible with you!

What's your treatment approach to trauma therapy?
Please hear that I am not in the business of simply treating symptoms. I believe effective therapy addresses the root causes of the symptoms clients are experiencing.
Many clients feel overwhelmed by their trauma, as it impacts multiple aspects of their life, from their relationships, career, substance use, sleep, physical health, spirituality, etc.
I break the trauma recovery process down into 3 easily identifiable steps, which together, make up the 3 pillars of recovery.
The number one priority before we begin any further treatment work is the first pillar, Soothing The Nervous System. Depending on your needs, I may use Brainspotting, mindfulness, and somatic interventions to help calm your nervous system and release physical tension and emotions that may be stored in your body. These are designed to help gradually lessen the impact of the hypervigilance and dissociation that trauma is causing in your daily life. I will equip you with tools to give you the skills and confidence you need to cope with triggers and emotions as they arise.
From there, we will move to the second pillar of recovery, Discovering & Understanding. Together, we’ll explore the underlying root causes of your symptoms and presenting concerns, including any core beliefs, wounds, and attachment issues.
The third pillar of recovery is Cultivating Meaningful Relationships; this includes your relationship with yourself! We’ll work together to discover and reclaim your authentic self and use our therapeutic relationship to foster a secure attachment style. In this stage, you’ll learn the tools you need to communicate, set boundaries, and create healthy, fulfilling relationships in your life.

What's your approach to couple's therapy?
I provide empathetic attunement to both individuals in marriage and couple’s sessions and seek to get to the bottom of each of your presenting concerns and goals for your relationship.
Your relationship has the potential to become one of the most healing, deeply satisfying, and growth-promoting experiences you could ever have. Often, our partners bring out the unhealed parts of ourselves and reveal the places where we’re in need of transformation.
My treatment approach seeks to address the root of the conflict, dissatisfaction, and miscommunication that you’re experiencing. I will work with you to explore your attachment styles and how they interact with each other, as well as the expectations and needs that you’re both bringing into the relationship. I’ll help you both develop tools for effective communication and listening, conflict resolution, as well as help facilitate a deep sense of appreciation and compassion for one another.
Together, we will discover your strengths as a couple and draw on them to cultivate a deeper sense of connection, intimacy, and attunement.

What is Brainspotting Therapy?
Brainspotting is an evidence-based practice developed by Dr. David Grand (2003). It is similar to EMDR, although some studies have indicated that Brainspotting may be more effective. Brainspotting is used to treat trauma, depression, anxiety, ADHD, OCD, dissociative disorders, sleep disturbances, and other mental health diagnoses.
There are specific eye positions that allow for certain parts of your brain to be accessed, known as brainspots. Using a pointer, I locate client brainspots while simultaneously helping clients attune to their bodily sensations, emotions, and thoughts. Through Brainspotting, clients are able to access and process trauma and emotional pain that has been stored deep in the brain and nervous system. Clients are free to process verbally throughout the session, silently, or even in their sleep.

Do you provide spiritual counseling?
For clients who wish to involve the spiritual aspect of their lives and experiences into their therapeutic process, I am happy to integrate spirituality into my treatment approach.
There comes a time where many clients who have been on a journey of healing and self-exploration find themselves wishing to explore the spiritual aspects of life, their purpose, and the meaning of their experiences.
For trauma work in particular, many clients have survived religious trauma and spiritual abuse, and feel a need to process these experiences as part of their healing.
It’s natural for clients who have experienced trauma to struggle with questions such as “Why did God allow this to happen to me?”, “Do I have to forgive my abuser?”, and “Does God even care about me?”. Anger, doubt, injustice, and a sense of deep grief can accompany these questions.
My goal as your therapist is to provide you with a compassionate, secure relationship where you’re free to explore these existential questions and process your emotions free from judgement.
I am a Christian and my faith is important to me. Out of respect and care for you as my client, I will not impose my own beliefs or involve my faith in your treatment process unless that is something you wish to explore together and include. At any time in our work together you are free to ask me any questions you might have or voice any concerns. I am here to facilitate your healing and prioritize your sense of security as my client.
